Yarn & Pattern Provided

The Fibre Co. are a small, luxury yarn company based in Cumbria, UK, that values community and collaboration. We are looking for enthusiastic makers to join our Beta Knitting team.

What does a Beta Knitter do?

As a beta knitter, you will have the opportunity to knit new patterns and try out new yarns before anyone else.

We provide you with the yarn and the pattern and in return, we ask you to share your progress and post your finished project on social media by a specified deadline, which is usually “launch day” for a new collection/yarn. The finished piece is yours to cherish.

We also ask you for feedback on the pattern. All of our patterns have been thoroughly tech-edited and sample knitted, however, in some cases, there may still be errors or areas that need more clarity in the pattern. If that is the case, we would ask you to flag it up so that we can fix it.[vc_single_image image=”6789″ img_size=”full”]Instagram photo by @terhimontonen who beta knitted Verena Cohr’s West Cumberland shawl for our Foundations SS19 collection[vc_single_image image=”6793″ img_size=”full”]Instagram photo by @redefinedpieces who beta knitted Sabine Frisch’s South Head shawl for our Foundations SS19 collection

How does the Beta Knitting Programme work?

Members of our beta knitting team will be emailed whenever a new opportunity for beta knitting comes up. In our email, we will include details and photos of the patterns available, yarn/colourway options and a deadline that all projects should be finished by.

If you don’t want to participate in this particular round of beta knitting, you can just ignore the email – you will still be notified about future opportunities. However, if you do want to apply to beta knit for any of the patterns, you will need to reply to the email by the date given.

Usually, we ask you to tell us your top 3 patterns that you would like to knit from the selection, as well as your top 3 colourways you would like to use. If we can, we will try to give you your top choice of pattern and colourway, however, this may not be possible if several makers want to knit the same design. Depending on how many people apply to beta knit, not all who apply may be selected for that particular round.

We run the programme using a platform called Slack, which is a messaging app for teams that can be used on desktop or mobile. All patterns and documents will be on there, as well as all communication. If you want to be a Beta Knitter, you must be happy to use this platform. It’s very user-friendly, even if you have never used it before.

How to Apply to Become a Beta Knitter

This programme is open to people of all races, sexualities, gender expressions, abilities, ages, and body sizes. If you are an enthusiastic maker, take beautiful photos and love to share your projects on Instagram and Ravelry, we would love to hear from you.

Our Beta Knitting Programme is currently closed to submissions. Please sign up to our email newsletter to be notified when it opens up again.[vc_single_image image=”6794″ img_size=”full”]Instagram photo by @bluebirdsdiary who beta knitted Sarah Hatton’s Greenup Gill cardigan for our Borrowdale collection
